About IslaTravelers.com

Welcome to IslaTravelers.com. My name is Bob Crabb, owner, webmaster, and guilty party to putting this site on the internet.

After visiting Isla Mujeres several times from 2002 to 2004, and having been connected with other frequent visitors via an internet message board, I started this site on somewhat of a whim on August 11, 2005. My reason for starting the site was so that I could have a venue for posting some stories that I had written about travel to Isla Mujeres and other islands, and because I wanted to open an internet forum for others with similar travel interests. Although at the time, there were two other web sites with message boards dedicated to fans of the island, I didn't like either of them, so I felt that the only way I would have a cyber spot to hang out that was to my liking would be to start my own.

As a testament to the old adage of "be careful what you wish for", I had no idea what was in store for me in taking on the task of managing an online forum. The forum grew to a membership of over 1700 registered users. As is typical of message boards, there was a core group of regulars, in this case about 150 who were regular posters. I liked maintaining the board for a long time. I enjoyed the technical challenge of developing and implementing new features, and I usually enjoyed the camaraderie of the board. I got really burned out on the experience, however. One can never predict when something comes up that needs to be handled, whether it is a technical issue, a user needing tech support (usually just needing an education in how things work), a spammer, a troublemaker, a scammer, or just a pissing match between members. Most of the time, these things would pop into my life at a time when I really didn't need or want any disturbances. I finally just got fed up with it all, and in March of 2010, I deleted the entire site from the internet.

At that time, most of the static content had gotten stale. The island had changed, and my wife and I no longer had any desire to travel there. The only part of the site that I regretted destroying was the Storm News page. The information on that page was very similar to what you see on the site today, with RSS feeds from the National Hurricane Center, that will give you and instant picture of Atlantic/Caribbean/Gulf storm activity. I re-wrote some of the functions, and put a new face on the site. So, this is what it is today. IslaTravelers.com is a resource for travelers to and residents of Isla Mujeres and the Yucatan to find a wealth of current and pertinent weather information in one place.

IslaTravelers.com Advertising Policy

Advertising that you will see on this site:

There is none.

How do I advertise on IslaTravelers.com?

You don't.

What happened to the ads that used to be on this site?

I used to have AdSense ads on here, but I kept seeing ads for businesses that I would never support, like big condo developments on Isla Mujeres, dolphin swim businesses, big AI resorts in Cancun, and advertisements from assholes who will do anything for a buck, and therefore promote the condos, dolphinariums, and AI resorts. Those ads are long gone.

I also had some affiliate ads on the site, but I got tired of looking at that garbage, and I figured that everyone else was probably tired of it too. Those ads are also gone.
